Agrifair attendees gather to watch pig-racing staged by Richard’s Racers Pig and Ducks during the popular annual Abbotsford event over the long weekend at Abbotsford Exhibition Park.

Sizzling hot days didn’t discourage thousands of people from taking in the 2014 Abbotsford Agrifair and Mighty Fraser Rodeo over the weekend.

Agrifair general manager Pamela Brenner said months of planning ensured the fair, which ended Monday, went off without a hitch.

“Despite our 30 degree Celsius temperatures, the people came out and had a good time,” Brenner said. “We’re very, very pleased.”

Attendance numbers won’t be known for some time, but she said crowds were strong all weekend.

Brenner said the musical performances were a hit, and not only because of the artists.

“It’s a pretty beautiful setting to be outside listening to music.”

A second demolition derby show was added and large crowds packed the grandstands for both events.

“Everybody puts in so much time and effort for months all year,” she said, “so when you see it come off in a four-day event with the happy faces and the smiling kids and the animals, it really is a satisfying feeling.”
