Cycling races benefit Special Olympics

The GranFondo and MedioFondo wind through the Fraser Valley, including Abbotsford.

On Sunday, July 22, cyclists will embark on a cycling journey through some pristine riding territory in the Fraser Valley.

The two races — a 160-km GranFondo and an 80-km MedioFondo route — begin and end at the Fort Langley Historic Site. In between, the cyclists ride to Abbotsford.

Organized by not-for-profit association Canadian Velo Event Management Society and Prospera Credit Union, half the proceeds will be donated to Special Olympics B.C. to provide sports programs for those with disabilities.

The Sylvan FamilyFondo will be held in conjunction with the Valley GranFondo. Participants enjoy a timed three-km ride in Fort Langley, followed by a safe-cycling session and free entry into the Fort Langley National Historic Site. Cost is $10 per family.
