The Crystal Gala Foundation donated a cheque of almost $620,000 on Wednesday (Dec. 18) for a new MRI and software for Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre.

The Crystal Gala Foundation in Abbotsford presented a $619,600 cheque on Wednesday (Dec. 18) to the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation for a new MRI machine and software to detect breast cancer.

The donation for Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre breaks down to $500,000 for the MRI and $120,000 for the new contrast enhanced mammography software.

Installation of the MRI is expected to be complete in 2026.

ARHCC becomes only the third site in the province – after BC Women’s Hospital and BC Cancer – to use the new software.

The Crystal Gala Foundation plans to donate another $500,000 to ARH in 2025.

The foundation has raised more than $4.8 million since 1999 in the fight against breast cancer.

Its main fundraiser is the annual Crystal Gala, which this year was held at the Ag-Rec Centre and raised $525,000. Planning is already underway for the 2025 event, taking place Oct. 25.
