The Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation (FVHCF) board and staff celebrated the achievements of the Crystal Gala Foundation on Feb. 19 at Tracycakes Bakery Cafe in downtown Abbotsford.

The recognition event was to honour the fundraising success that has led to the establishment of the Crystal Gala Breast Health Unit in Abbotsford Regional Hospital, which sees 12,000 patients each year.

“It is astounding to me how much money has been raised, and it is not just a question of money but the hours of dedication and volunteer work that goes with that. I just want to say thank you, you have been a great partner to our foundation,” said Gerry Carron, chair of FVHCF.

Funds raised at the Crystal Gala have been used to purchase two state-of-the-art digital mammography machines – one in the Crystal Gala Breast Health Unit used for breast screening; the other in the medical imaging unit for in-depth diagnostic testing.

A diagnostic ultrasound machine was also funded in 2013.

The Crystal Gala Foundation is the FVHCF's first $1 million donor.

Members of the Crystal Gala Foundation and some of their donors were on hand to receive floral bouquets from long-time Gala supporter Simply Perfect Flowers.

A champagne toast was made, and guests were served charcuterie, eclairs and cupcakes.

Tracycakes Bakery Cafe was closed to the public during the event to honour the ladies of the Crystal Gala Foundation.
