Community science will be the focus this week at the University of the Fraser Valley with fun events aimed at science teachers, UFV students, and Fraser Valley families.

Do you want to learn more about agriculture, biology, mathematics, physics, chemistry or kinesiology? Or explore a science related career with UFV’s Science Advice Centre? These are just a few of the science-related exhibitors and activities featured at the Community Science Celebration at UFV on Saturday, Jan. 22.

This free family event runs from 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Envision Athletic Centre  (Abbotsford campus).  In addition to UFV, over 20 community exhibitors will provide displays, demonstrations and hands-on science activities for all ages.

The focus is on Grade 10 to 12 students at the Opening the Door career networking event on Wednesday, Jan 19.  Students are invited to gather in Abbotsford campus theatre B101 from 6-9 p.m. to meet and network with mentors in a variety of science fields.

The student participants will have the opportunity to engage in a panel discussion with professionals and gain an insightful look into possible careers in science; develop potential career contacts; learn and practise networking skills; and contribute four hours of credit toward the work exploration component of the Career and Personal Planning (CAPP) program under the B.C. school system if their district chooses to give this credit.
