Communitas Supportive Care Society holds a Planned Giving webinar on Thursday, Oct. 28
The session runs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Those interested can register at communitascare.com/events.
Sarah De Klein, philanthropy and donor relations for Communitas, said the event will provide expert advice to help peopl fulfill their “generosity goals” and plan their legacy.
“Building on the success of last year’s webinar, we chose to run the event online again,” De Klein said.
De Klein and Communitas CEO Karyn Santiago will host the webinar, bringing greetings and sharing information about the organization.
They will introduce the two presenters: Katherine Smart, a gift-planning consultant from Abundance Canada, and John Wiebe, a lawyer with Kuhn LLP who is also a board member of Communitas.
Smart said she hopes to impart simple and practical ways that people can express their generosity throughout their lifetime and into the future. This will include information on how to create a “Generosity Plan” and how to disburse donations to favourite charities.
“When it comes to building meaningful relationships, the role of a gift-planning consultant grants me the opportunity to connect with generous people at their heart level,” she said. “Together we can fulfill that desire you have to make a social impact on your community and in the world.”
Wiebe’s presentation will focus on the legal considerations and issues involved in the estate-planning process. In particular, he will discuss important considerations of will-making and the implementation of living wills.
“I find that many people put off their wills and estate planning because it can be a stressful decision-making process,” he said. “My hope is that this seminar helps ease some of that burden.”
Abundance Canada is a faith-based charitable foundation that helps Canadians create and implement a customized generosity plan to maximize their support for the charities they care about most, during their lifetime and beyond.
Kuhn LLP is based in Vancouver and Abbotsford and provides a wide range of legal services.
The webinar is free and there is no obligation to make a donation to Abundance Canada or to Communitas.
“We offer this event at no cost because we feel it’s important for all of us to plan our legacy,” De Klein said.
