Renowned Canadian journalist and author Gwynne Dyer is speaking at Rick Hansen Secondary on Friday in an event organized by the Abbotsford school district.
Dyer has worked as a freelance journalist, columnist, broadcaster and lecturer on international affairs for more than 20 years. He was made an officer of the Order of Canada in 2012.
Born in Newfoundland and Labrador, Dyer received multiple degrees before finishing with a Ph.D. in military and Middle Eastern history from the University of London. He served in three navies and held academic appointments at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and at Oxford University.
Dyer's column on international affairs is published by over 175 papers in about 45 countries. In Canada, the column appears regularly in more than 55 newspapers and websites.
Dyer's books include "Ignorant Armies: Sliding into War in Iraq" (2003), "Future: Tense" (2005), and "The Mess They Made: The Middle East After Iraq" (2007), all of which were number one or two on the Globe & Mail's non-fiction bestseller list. His recent book, "Climate Wars," deals with the geopolitical implications of large-scale climate change.
