Burn Camp kicks off in Abbotsford

Event held last Sunday at Legacy Sports Centre

The BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund kicked off its 25th anniversary Burn Camp on Sunday, July 15 at the Legacy Sports Centre in Abbotsford.

The event included a pancake breakfast and a Kick-Off to Camp celebration.

This 25th year of camp is hosted by the Abbotsford Fire Fighters IAFF Local 2864.

The event hosts 79 burn injured children, more than 67 volunteer counsellors and support staff who will then head to the Cheakamus Centre in Brackendale for a week of fun.

Also in attendance at the kick-off event were the young burn survivors. These children (under six years old) along with their families, were invited to participate in the many festivities where they could meet other burn survivors and see first-hand what camp is about and look forward to when they can go to camp.

Campers and their counsellors participate in group activities such as swimming, hiking, kayaking, river rafting, and arts and crafts. They also receive valuable one-on-one support from counsellors and other burn survivors.
