Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of the Fraser Valley kicked off the 24th annual Bowl for Kids Sake fundraiser on Wednesday at Galaxy Bowl Lanes in Abbotsford.

The event took place with the Abbotsford Police youth squad and some of the organization's matches.

Bowl for Kids Sake 2013 is presented by Prospera Credit Union.

In celebration of their 100th birthday, BBBS handed out goodie bags and provided birthday cake and pizza.

“The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Fraser Valley is to build a child’s future through the friendship and guidance of mentoring," said board chair Daniel Sorensen.

Funds raised by BBBS help to screen, support and match a volunteer mentor with a child, creating lasting friendships and providing positive and supportive role models to children, helping them reach their full potential.

“The mentorship programs offered by BBBS assist in helping young people meet their full potential and become contributing members of our society,” said youth squad Sgt. Casey Vinet. “This includes giving them the skills that will lead to safe and healthy choices in life.”
