This fundraiser is right up your alley.

Bowl for Kids Sake, one of the major fundraisers for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Fraser Valley, comes to Abbotsford in March.

The “Bigs” will be at Dogwood Bowling and Billiards March 8 and 9, and at Galaxy Bowl on March 30 and 31.

To get involved, go to the website www.mentoringworks.ca and follow the links to register online.

“You need to register, so you can just show up and bowl,” said David Sheach, executive director of BBBS Fraser Valley.

There are downloadable pledge sheets on the site, so people can solicit pledges from their friends and co-workers before the event.

Locally, Bowl for Kids Sake is an important fundraiser with a goal of $100,000 for the Fraser Valley. It is also part of a national bowling fundraiser that is worth $7.5 million.

“Sometimes people give toonies, and sometimes they give $500,” said Sheach.

Being a good bowler is not the point – it’s all about a fun, community event.

“What’s cool about bowling as a fundraiser is everyone can get involved,” said Sheach.

If there is a group or company that would like to take part in Bowl For Kids Sake, but is not available on the dates listed above, they can call BBBS at 604-852-3331 to see if they can be accommodated on a different date.

There is no minimum fundraising requirement, but participants have their bowling, shoes and food provided, and are also given a T-shirt.

If participants raise $100, and for every added increment of $100, they will be entered in a draw to win six admissions to the Cirque du Soleil performance at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre on Sept. 1, where they will enjoy box seats provided by Prospera Credit Union – the title sponsor of Bowl for Kids Sake. Also part of the prize is dinner for six – each valued at $50 – at the Esposito Group’s Finnegan’s Pub or Phoenix Lounge, located next to AESC.

BBBS Fraser Valley serves a population of children about the size of an average elementary school – approximately 400 last year.
