Ball hockey tournament raises funds for Matthew's House

The event takes place May 23 at Sevenoaks Shopping Centre in Abbotsford

A ball hockey tournament in May raises funds to support Matthew’s House, a respite home for families with children who have complex health care needs.

The Take It to the Streets tournament takes place Saturday, May 23 at Sevenoaks Shopping Centre in Abbotsford.

The four-on-four event offers both recreational and competitive hockey games for everyone age seven and older. Teams must have four to seven players.

The event is being organized by Chris Trendall and his dad, Les.

“I’ve been involved with hockey my whole life and thought it would be great to put on a tournament that anyone could participate in,” said Trendall, who works as a special education assistant at MEI school and is a hockey coach.

Trendall and his wife, Arielle, also provide respite care for children with complex needs, and are aware of the support families need.

“We also wanted to do it in a way that would give back to the community.”

Fees for the tournament are based on the number of players and the division the team is in. For more information and to register for the event, visit takeittothestreets.ca.
