Bakerview Church is marking its 50th anniversary this weekend.
Celebrations start Friday (April 10) evening with an open house from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Festivities move to Columbia Bible College (CBC) on Saturday for a reception at 5:30 p.m. and a banquet. Charter members of the church will be introduced, and there will be stories and songs reflecting the history of the congregation throughout the evening.
On Sunday, beginning at 10:30 a.m., an anniversary celebration service will be held in the gymnasium at CBC. Dr. Walter Unger will be the keynote speaker. CBC is located at 2940 Clearbrook Rd.
A congregational memoir, A Mosaic of Grace Bakerview 50 Years, has been produced to commemorate the special occasion.
The book contains about 100 pages of select stories and photos reflecting a half-century congregational journey, said David Giesbrecht, a member of the church’s 50th anniversary planning committee.
“Included are dramatic personal accounts as well as stories illustrating Bakerview members at work locally, as well as around the globe. Also highlighted is the strong tradition of musical excellence and diversity, characteristic of Bakerview throughout the five decades of its life.”
Bakerview is the daughter church of the Clearbrook Mennonite Brethren Church. According to Giesbrecht, many younger members of the mother church felt the need for a more contemporary worship experience, and in 1965 the new church was launched.
The book is available through the Bakerview Church office for $20 each.
Anyone interested in purchasing the publication should call 604-859-4611 or visit the church office at 2285 Clearbrook Rd.
