Aimé Handy of Abbotsford celebrates 100th birthday

Aimé Handy of Abbotsofrd celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday, April 12.

Aimé was born in 1925 in Vancouver. Her mother passed away when Aimé was nine years old, and she was raised by her father, a veteran of the First World War, and two older brothers, Bill and Harry Philip.

Aimé’s life has unfolded in sets of 20 years. She married Al Thomson just prior to her 20th birthday. 

Twenty years later, Al passed away after a battle with cancer. Aimé remained single for the next 20 years, working as a doctor’s receptionist in Vancouver, Surrey and Ladysmith. 

She met and married Pastor Ted Handy, and they enjoyed 20 years together before Ted’s passing. 

During the last 20 years, Aimé has enjoyed time with family and friends in Abbotsford. She currently resides at Menno Home.

Family and friends came from as far as Kansas, Colorado, Nevada, and Nova Scotia to celebrate Aimé’s 100th birthday. 

Her daughter Heather Germaine and stepdaughter Trudy Handy organized the party held at The Mahogany at Mill Lake in Abbotsford, where more than 60 people celebrated with Aimé.
