Fluorescent minerals are the featured display at this year's B.C. Gem Show in Abbotsford.

The B.C. Lapidary Society is hosting the B.C. Gem Show now, until Sunday at the Ag-Rec Building at Abbotsford Exhibition Park (32470 Haida Drive.)

This year’s theme is “From Mining to Gems” and features displays focusing on mining and the process used to get gems.

"The colorful world of minerals is our featured exhibit this year," said Cam Bacon, show chairman.

The display showcases fluorescent minerals, displayed in a dark area.

In addition, more than 100 cases displaying rocks, minerals gems and more are on site with more than 40 dealers at the show.

Bacon said the annual event draws school-age children, who can visit the education centre, as well as gem lovers of all ages.

The show opened today and runs until 8 p.m. tonight, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
