Abby students invited to enter writing contest supporting Habitat

Genworth Canada Meaning of Home Contest open to students in Grades 4 to 6

Abbotsford students are invited to enter a writing contest which could benefit the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate.

The Genworth Canada Meaning of Home Contest is open to students in Grades 4 to 6. They are invited to write a short composition or poem that expresses what they love most about their home.

The contest closes on Nov. 9.

The winner receives a $60,000 grant that they can direct to the Habitat affiliate of their choice.

The winner also receives an iPad and a pizza party for their entire school.

Additional prizes include five runner-up prizes of $5,000 grants directed to local Habitat builds, as well as iPad Touches and classroom pizza parties.

In addition, Genworth is continuing with "Dollars for Essays," in which $5 will be donated to an affiliate for every Meaning of Home essay submitted by a student from the affiliate's region.

Habitat for Humanity builds homes in partnership with low-income families, who receive a no-interest, no-profit mortgage with payments set at less than 30 per cent of their gross income.

The organization has an Upper Fraser Valley affiliate, based in Abbotsford, which is currently building a home on Farmer Road.
