Abbotsford’s Gobbler Rugby Tournament returns Oct. 9

Fundraiser to support mental health and the local rugby club

The Phat Gobbler Saloon fundraiser takes place Saturday, Oct. 9 outdoors at Exhibition Park (behind the Cadet Building) in support of Abbotsford rugby and mental health.

The event includes a country-rock concert with the Tanner Olsen Band and the Topaz Band, as well as DJ Trav. Organizers stated it is bringing some of the best elements of the Agrifair Phat Pig Saloon and infusing it into the Gobbler.

Helm’s Mobile Kitchen food truck will also be on hand and are offering a roasted pig and turkey with traditional fixings for dinner.

Organizers encourage everyone to tip our cowgirl and cowboy hats, dust off your boots and as we welcome the entire community to enjoy the action, the sportsmanship and the hospitality culture of rugby.

“Phat” pig and turkey grub with fixings will be served, and there will be prizes for the craziest costumes. Doors open at 6 p.m., and full vaccination is required.

The event is held in conjunction with the 43rd annual Gobbler Rugby Tournament, taking place Oct. 9 and 10. The Abbotsford Rugby Football Club’s annual tournament is a celebration of the sport and the community, and funds will be raised for The Foundry and also the ARFC itself.

The men’s and women’s 15s tournament will feature an $800 prize for the first place teams and a $400 prize for the second place teams.

Tickets are $25 and are available at phat-gobbler-saloon.tickit.ca.
