Two organizations integral to Abbotsford’s most marginalized people have each just received grants for $10,000.

Archway Community Services and Cyrus Centre each were named grant recipients by the recently established Fraser Valley Realtors Charitable Foundation (FVRCF). They are among a total of 10 such organizations chosen by FVRCF across the Fraser Valley, who each received $10,000.

Archway is a non-profit, multi-service, multi-funded community based social service agency that helps thousands of people annually through their 90+ programs. Cyrus Centre provides services to youth aged 12-24 who are without a safe and stable place to live. Services include a wide variety of supports including shelter, meals, advocacy, shower, laundry services, and much more.

Both groups thanked the foundation during a recent cheque presentation.

“The difference it makes for youth to be able to access counselling in times of crisis is so integral to their well-being,” said Melissa Johnson, Abbotsford Cyrus Centre Director. “Youth homelessness is a community issue, and requires a community response. The grant from the FVRCF is just that: community supporting community.”

The FVRCF announced their first round of available grants in March 2023 and received a total of $320,000 in requests for support.

“We were humbled by the response to our first round of grant applications,” said Christiane Hodson, FVRCF’s executive director. “It indicates the high level of need that exists among young people in our Fraser Valley communities, and the FVRCF is honoured to be in a position to help.”

The second round of available grants will be announced by the FVRCF in the fall of 2023.
