Abbotsford Terry Fox Run may be cancelled unless organizer found

The iconic Terry Fox Run is in danger of being cancelled in Abbotsford this fall if a volunteer organizer is not found.

The iconic Terry Fox Run is in danger of being cancelled in Abbotsford this fall if a volunteer organizer is not found.

The run is entering its 31st year of raising money for cancer research and is scheduled to take place on Sept. 18.

“It would be such a shame for the people of Abbotsford to miss out on an opportunity to keep Terry’s legacy alive as every community, no matter how big or small, can make a huge impact, just as Terry learned when a small town of 10,000 people raised over $10,000,” said Donna White, provincial director for B.C. and Yukon of the Terry Fox Foundation.

In 1980, Fox ran across Canada in his Marathon of Hope to raise money for cancer research.

Since then, more than $500 million has been raised through the Terry Fox Foundation’s initiatives, such as The Terry Fox Run.

The foundation is looking for a run organizer to continue the tradition in Abbotsford this year.

The event offers participants the option to run, walk, blade or bike, and also features family-orientated events.

For more information contact Donna White at The Terry Fox Foundation by emailing bcyukon@terryfoxrun.org or by calling 1-888-836-9786.
