Spencer Spenst from W. J. Mouat Secondary in Abbotsford has been selected to become a member of the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).

The society recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment.

Spenst, 16, is in Grade 12 in the French immersion program at Mouat Secondary.

Last year, he was awarded the Grade 11 math and science award based on the 100 per cent he achieved in physics 11, chemistry 11, math 11 and 12, calculus 12, computer programming 11, and 99 per cent in physics 12.

Spenst also placed second for his age in high jump at the Canadian Track and Field Championships.

Through the church he attends, he has volunteered at the Fraser Valley Gleaners and the MCC relief sale. He has also assisted the Valley Royals with their cross-country race series and summer camps.

Membership to NSHSS entitled students to benefits that include scholarship opportunities, academic competitions, and participation in programs offered by educational partners.
