Abbotsford student Atticus Brummitt (left) won bronze in carpentry at the 2025 Skills Canada National Competition.

The future of the trades industry was on full display at the Skills Canada National Competition on May 29 and 30, as secondary and post-secondary students from all across the country gathered in Regina to demonstrate their technical skills.

Included in this sea of competitors was W.J. Mouat's Atticus Brummitt, who had earned a spot in the carpentry division after his impressive performance at the provincial event in Abbotsford.

The carpentry student faced plenty of tough competition but was able to build an award-winning project that was enough to earn him third place in the secondary-level carpentry division.

Not only was Brummitt the only Abbotsford student to earn this accolade at nationals, but he was also one of only 29 B.C. students to come home with a medal.

The top finishers from the Skills Canada National Competition will be able to continue their journey at WorldSkills Shanghai, which is the next bi-annual international trades competition, taking place in China in September 2026.
