With the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, service clubs found themselves having to cancel regular meetings and find new ways of connecting during a time of social distancing and self-isolation.

The Rotary Club of Abbotsford-Matsqui was no different and, finding itself unable to have its regular dinner meetings, began connecting virtually.

At its first virtual board meeting on March 26, the idea of an in-club fundraiser for the food bank was proposed. The fundraiser was launched and, on April 9 thanks to the generosity of its members, the club donated $3,425 to the Archway Abbotsford Food Bank.

An additional $1,400 of the money raised is being used for a Rotary District initiative that will provide additional matching funds to the local food bank in the next few weeks in conjunction with the other local Rotary clubs.
