Frieda Janzen of Abbotsford is among those participating throughout May in the Workout to Conquer Cancer.

Frieda Janzen of Abbotsford is sweating it out for 31 days straight this month to benefit people across the province facing cancer.

She is taking part in the BC Cancer Foundation’s Workout to Conquer Cancer presented by RYU Apparel.

Participants commit to move every day of the month while fundraising in support of the latest cancer research and enhancements to patient care at BC Cancer, where Janzen is a registered nurse.

Her ties to cancer reach farther than just her occupation – she has seen family members and close friends face the disease and says that is her biggest motivation for taking on the challenge.

“I think it’s a huge blessing just to be able to get involved and show my support,” she said.

With one in two British Columbians facing a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, Janzen knows the importance of fundraising to support the cause.

“I know cancer will hit close again in my lifetime, whether it be family, friends or even myself. Working at BC Cancer gives me even more motivation to do my part and contribute to research and treatment, and Workout is a fun way to do it.”

In its five-year history, Workout has raised $1.57 million to help improve outcomes for patients across the province. Last year, more than 900 participants from 87 communities across B.C. took part, raising over $280,000.
