The Abbotsford Hospice Society (AHS) has announced the addition of Dr. Lakhbir Jassal to its team.

Jassal takes on the role of youth services manager, as of Jan. 16. As such, she will lead the youth bereavement program.

She has a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, focusing on the study of death and bereavement, and has extensive experience in holistic and therapeutic counselling.

This marks the first time that AHS has had focused leadership in youth services.

Jassal said she is “very excited” to join the AHS team.

“The staff have been instrumental in carving out a creative path for diverse matters of death in a supportive, and most welcoming, environment, and I hope to add to that creative platform by means of my role as youth services manager, where I will draw on a holistic approach,” she said.

The AHS has been serving the community for more than 30 years, providing palliative support services and bereavement and loss programs.

In April 2016, the society opened Holmberg House, an adult hospice located on the Dave Lede Campus of Care on Marshall Road, next to Abbotsford Regional Hospital.
