Abbotsford Hospice Gala raised $70,000

The Moments of Hope event raised money for critical front-line-services offered by the society and the construction of Holmberg House

This year marked a milestone for the annual Abbotsford Hospice Society Gala celebrating 10 years.

The Moments of Hope event held March 1 raised $70,000, which will support critical front-line-services offered by the society and the construction of Holmberg House.

The recent event showcased a program that included a welcome from Abbotsford West MLA and Minister of Finance Michael de Jong,  an In Memoriam piece commemorating community leaders who died in 2013, and the live auction of one item – a special piece of jewelry donated by the grieving daughter of a previous client.

Abbotsford Hospice Society (AHS) provides emotional and social support for people who are dying, as well as children, teens and adults grieving the death of a loved one.

Since 1986, AHS has offered services such as one-to-one and family counselling, support groups, crisis debriefing, expressive therapies, music and play therapy for grieving children and support for teens.

Construction is under way for Holmberg House, which will be the first adult hospice residence in Abbotsford, with 10 patient suites and two family suites.
