A garage sale taking place on Saturday, June 9 in Abbotsford raises funds for a farming project in Kenya.

The event is being held by the Imani Orphan Care Foundation from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 3305 and 3308 Blossom Cres.

Imani plans to buy a 20-acre plot of land to use as a farming project for an orphanage in Malindi, located on the east coast of Kenya.

The land will supply food to feed the children and to sell to local hotels for money to sustain the home.

The project will also teach farming to the children so that they have skills they can use when they are re-integrated into society.

Imani Orphan Care is a non-profit organization based in Abbotsford that helps support two orphanages in Kenya.

The other one is located in western Kenya in the rural town of Ogembo.
