An across-Abbotsford walk takes place Friday, May 26 in celebration of diversity.

The Walk 4 Diversity begins at 8 a.m. at the Tim Hortons at 30340 Automall Drive and makes stops at churches and at the Sikh temple on South Fraser Way before ending on Whatcom Road.

Priya Sharma said she was inspired to organize the event after witnessing “an apparent divide between the Indo-Canadian community and other Canadian residents residing in Abbotsford.”

Sharma is a former student of University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) who earned her bachelor of arts in international development studies and political science. She is now an English as a Second Language teacher at St. John Brebeuf school.

“I hope this walk will not only inspire and motivate Canadians, but also those of a different cultural background to embrace a more inclusive society,” she wrote in a piece published in UFV’s Cascade newspaper.
