Abbotsford Christian School students make difference

Funds raised at the school will support a project in Ethiopia.

Students and staff at Abbotsford Christian elementary will donate $2,500 in prize money toward a project in Ethiopia.

The school won the Mayor’s Award in the 2012 Run for Water – an award recognizing the school with the most student participation and top fundraising effort. The cash prize is sponsored by Envision Financial.

The annual Run for Water partners with the non-profit Hope International to provide clean water systems in Ethiopia.

Principal Roy van Eerden and a group of teachers decided the best way to use the award money was to continue to support Ethiopian kids by giving the funds to Hope International.

The money will help the organization renovate a school in the village of Koshale, which is in the process of receiving a clean water system.

Run for Water spokesperson Randall Peters will travel to Koshale in the coming months to meet with and interview villagers for a video, which will enable local kids to see the impact of their fundraising efforts.

The film will be made available to any school interested in seeing how their fundraising is making a difference or to those interested in getting involved.
