Abbotsford Chamber calling for grant proposals

Small community organizations can receive funding for local projects

The Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce has called for small community organizations to submit grant proposals.

The Chamber grant program was created to provide financial assistance to non-profit, community-based organizations that provide direct programs, services, or activities that enhance the quality of life for Abbotsford residents.

Earlier this year, the board of directors established a fund of $2,500 to be provided for grant purposes.

“We recognize that there are many smaller organizations with specific project needs but lacking the facilities to generate their own fundraising,” said Abbotsford Chamber president Mike Welte.

He said they are hoping to attract funding requests in the range of $500 to $1000 per request and organizations don’t have to be Chamber members to apply.

The program will fund projects, events or activities that support and sustain, promote, inform or educate, celebrate, preserve and/or provide access to the arts, culture, environment, heritage, and social services and health.

Applications will be assessed by a panel of board members from the Chamber based on merit, economic impact, community impact, ability to meet goals and recognition.

Organizations must complete an application for the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce Community Grant. Complete details and grant applications are available from the Chamber website at http://abbotsfordchamber.com/pages/Grant or the Chamber office.

Deadline for submission of a grant application is Nov. 8, 2013.
