A cadet from Abbotsford was among those who competed over the weekend at a provincial public speaking competition in Richmond.

Shauna Supeene, with the 861 Silverfox air cadet squadron, was among cadets from Penticton, Elk Valley, Quesnel, Delta, Coquitlam, Vancouver and Victoria who vied for top spot at the Provincial Wing Effective Speaking Competition.

Each cadet was required to present a five- to six-minute prepared speech as well as a two- to three-minute impromptu speech.

The gold medal went to Savannah Groot from Penticton, while Daniel Niles from Victoria and Joren Jackson from Delta took silver and bronze, respectively.

Groot now represents B.C. at the Air Cadet League National Effective Speaking Competition in Charlottetown, PEI this June.
