Local businessman Darshan Sharma is again collecting donations of items to aid in Fort McMurray relief efforts.

Sharma first held a donation drive in mid-May, when he set aside a building he owns at 2630 Cedar Park Place to collect items such as canned food, baby formula, diapers, pet food and new socks, T-shirts and pyjamas.

Sharma said the drive was a big success, resulting in a full container of items being delivered to Edmonton. Pannu Bros. Trucking donated a use of one of their trucks and a driver to deliver the goods.

Sharma and a friend with a pickup truck also travelled to Edmonton for the delivery.

Sharma said many of the donated items came from the Sikh and Hindu temples in Abbotsford.

Items for the second donation drive can be dropped off daily from 1 to 8 p.m. until this Sunday, June 5 at the same building, located next to Grewal Bros. Meat Shop.

Also being collected are new pillows, blankets, towels, toilet paper and oversized clothing and shoes.

The load will leave from Abbotsford on Monday. For more information  about the types of items being collected or to volunteer with pickup or sorting of the items, call 604-308-5301.
