Local organizations are seeing an injection of cash, thanks to gaming grants from the province.

Twenty-three social service and community organizations in Abbotsford are together receiving nearly $850,000 from the community gaming grant program.

Abbotsford-Mission MLA Simon Gibson called the grant “a great initiative that provides additional funding for groups and organizations providing important social services to help those in need.

“Abbotsford has a vibrant network of organizations committed to improving our community,” Abbotsford South MLA Darryl Plecas said. “We are lucky to have so many passionate volunteers undertaking this important work for the betterment of our city.”

The money was granted under the human and social services category of the grant program.

Gaming grants, totalling $135 million a year, are spread throughout many sectors, including arts and culture, sport, environment, public safety, human and social services and parent advisory councils.
