Abbotsford 4-H Beef Club takes top honours

It's been a busy month of shows for local competitors with more to come.

Abbotsford 4-H Beef Club is off to another great start to the show season.

In June the club's achievement day was held which saw Brandon ten Bos-Benson and Jace Webster win champion and reserve in the Jr. showmanship class.

Brooklyn Nielsen, a first year member, also competed in the class.

In the Sr. division, Brett Friesen and Jaymie Thompson came out on top. Also competing were:  Kalie Fooks, James Hague, Courtney Friesen, Livia Kilian, Joey Massier, Jordan Nielsen, Loni Nickel, Clayton Nickel, Paige Thompson, Joel Webster and Chelsea Webster.

The members also showed their steer projects and Jaymie Thompson and Courtney Friesen won champion and reserve champion steer respectively.

Jaymie Thompson also won champion heifer, while Brandon ten Bos-Benson took home the reserve champion.

The club also competed at Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Countryfest, which saw Courtney Friesen take home the award for champion steer.

Most recently, Abbotsford Beef attended Agrifair and the whole club did extremely well.

Brandon ten Bos-Benson was awarded champion jr. showman, Paige Thompson and Jordan Nielsen won champion and reserve champion intermediate showman, and Jaymie Thompson was awarded champion sr. showman.

It was also a clean sweep in the steer competition seeing Paige Thompson winning champion and Brett Friesen winning reserve.

The members will attend their last show of the year at the PNE from Aug.17-21, where they will sell their steer projects in the 4-H auction on Aug.21.
