A Walk for the Rice Reason

Event at Mill Lake Park in Abbotsford raises funds and awareness for global food projects.

A walk being held in Abbotsford on Thursday, April 12 raises funds to support projects in Burundi, Haiti, North Korea and Sudan.

A Walk for the Rice Reason, hosted by Hunger Response International (HRI), acknowledges the distance many women and children in developing countries have to walk daily for food, water and fuel, says HRI director Lorri Sawatsky.

The event takes place at Mill Lake Park, and participants can choose from either a 5 km or 10 km route. Check-in time and warm-up is at 3 p.m., followed by a rally at 3:30.

The cost is $25 plus a bag of rice for the local food bank. Family and team rates are also available.

HRI hosts the Rice Raiser campaign, focusing funds on four global food projects each year, as well as helping the local food bank.
