The third annual 3 Alarm Adventure Race on Sunday attracted 26 teams: 14 competitive, eight recreational and four high school.

The race was divided into three parts. The forest loop, taking place at Clearbrook Park and Downes Bowl, involved mountain biking and orienteering; the water loop at Mill Lake featured paddling canoes across the lake; while the field loop at Matsqui Recreation Centre consisted of swimming as well as on-ice tobogganing and target shooting using hockey sticks.

Participants also had to compete in two of three firefighting events including pushing a fire truck, an obstacle course while wearing full firefighter gear, or water hose target shooting.

In the competitive division, Pro Motion Physiotherapy took first place with a time of three hours and 45 minutes. In the recreation category, the Chiefs and Chiefettes (made up of local firefighters) won in a time of 3:58 while W.J. Mouat took the high school title in a time of 3:57. While figures have yet to be finalized, organizers estimate $10,000 was raised for the Abbotsford Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund.
