Variety–The Children’s Charity has donated $1 million to the construction of a second Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.

“Variety has been a valued partner, supporter and friend of Canuck Place since the opening of our Shaughnessy house 16 years ago,” said Filomena Nalewajek, CEO of Canuck Place.

“As we embark on the new phase in our history, we are grateful for Variety’s ongoing support of our vision to provide comfort and expert care to all of BC’s children and families in need.”

Barbie Hislop, executive director of Variety, said “Variety was there for Canuck Place at the very beginning and has continued to support them throughout the years.”

Hislop presented Nalewajek with the gift at Variety’s Top Hats donor recognition event Aug. 24 in Abbotsford.

Currently, 46 per cent of families served by Canuck Place reside in the Fraser Health Region.

To extend its reach to those families in need, Canuck Place is building a second children’s hospice housed within a Campus of Care located on a two-acre property in Abbotsford.

With 10 beds and five family suites, the new 30,000-square-foot hospice will double Canuck Place’s current capacity to better meet the growing need for pediatric palliative care services across the province.
