The Abbotsford-based Sparkle Project fell short of winning a Small Business B.C. Award, despite cracking the top five for in the “best community impact” category.

The Sparkle Project came in the top five in the initial voting process and presented a 10-minute pitch to a panel of judges as a result.

The Best Community Impact Award – won by Cedar Opportunities Co-op Cafe, a business that employs people with developmental disabilities in Nanaimo – was one of 10 given out this year.

The awards are staged by Small Business B.C., a resource centre for small business owners, partially funded by the ministry of small business. There were over 535 published nominees from 71 communities around the province.

The Sparkle Project, founded by entrepreneur and country singer Kristal Barrett-Stuart, provides workshops aiming to assist and inspire entrepreneurial young women.
