Sevenoaks Shopping Centre wins prestigious award

Mall honoured for Christmas campaign and use of Facebook

Abbotsford's Sevenoaks Shopping Centre has won a 2014 Maple Leaf Silver Award for its Countdown to Christmas campaign at the 2014 Canadian Shopping Centre Global Awards.

With Facebook the most valuable social media platform for marketing, Sevenoaks created a simple yet powerful “Countdown to Christmas Facebook contest”. Starting Dec. 1, entrants had to “like” or “comment” on the daily Facebook prize post to qualify. Entrants were also asked Christmas related questions on traditions and favourite gift ideas.

The “Countdown to Christmas” contest was successful and by Dec. 24, Sevenoaks had 5,019 followers; a 31 per cent increase in 24 days. Facebook comment’s totaled 18,177 with another 17,438 likes. The contest reached 512,070 people, four times the population of Abbotsford.

Professional recognition for this program was given to marketing director Tricia Dumouchel.

ICSC announced the winners of the 2014 ICSC Canadian Shopping Centre Awards during an awards ceremony at ICSC’s Canadian Convention in Toronto. In addition, all 2014 Maple Leaf Gold winners are automatically eligible to win ICSC's VIVA Best-of-the-Best Award. The ICSC VIVA Best-of-the-Best Awards, which recognize the shopping centre industry’s most cutting-edge properties, innovative solutions and creative responses to market trends throughout the world, will be presented during ICSC's annual convention, RECon, May 17, 2015, in Las Vegas, Nev.
