Mike Myers stars in Sears Canada's newest commercial campaign

Mike Myers, name dropper?

The iconic Canadian comedian – who starred in the Austin Powers trilogy and Saturday Night Live – appears in Sears Canada's latest commercial campaign with his brother Peter, who's been an employee of the department store chain for 32 years (according to the video).

'Sears Canada. My brother works there' is the ad's slogan, and the retailer is asking customers to use #mybrotherworksatsears when sharing the video on social media and Twitter.

The commercial also acknowledges Sears's financial floundering as of late – the chain's parent company has closed several of its Canadian locations, including the Eaton Centre store in Toronto, and has sold off a reported $380 million of its Canadian operation.

(In May, the Financial Post's Hollie Shaw wrote that Sears Canada's "demise seems inevitable" and noted that the company's revenue had dropped from $6.7 billion in 2001 to $3.9 billion in 2013.)

But the brothers Myers disagree.

"Is Sears Canada going away?" the more famous Myers asks at the beginning of the ad.

Peter responds: "We're not going anywhere. You of all people should know not to believe everything you read in the papers... In a way, Sears Canada's getting leaner, too."
