About 90 people attended a free luncheon June 16 to learn more about the predicted boom in liquid natural gas (LNG) coming to British Columbia.
The event was sponsored by Darryl Plecas, Abbotsford South MLA, and featured former Dawson Creek mayor and MLA Mike Bernier, who spoke on how local businesses can prepare, tool and position themselves to benefit from increased development of LNG in northern B.C.
He also highlighted that the industry has been in operation for years, with billions invested already in B.C.
According to event organizer Dean Sutton, the people in attendance enjoyed hearing the technical side of LNG operations.
“Everyone left knowing something big was going to happen,” he said.
There will be a need for hundreds of workers once wholesale LNG development begins, as well as needs for small manufacturing, food services, and items such as branded clothing, safety gear, etc.
