An Abbotsford business has been named as one of five finalists in its category for the Small Business BC Awards.

The Sparkle Project was nominated in the Best Community Impact category and is up against businesses in Nanaimo, Duncan, Vancouver and Powell River.

Each finalist was previously announced as a top-10 semfinalist, and advanced to the next stage based on online voting.

The finalists now give a 10-minute pitch to a panel of judges, and the winners in the 10 categories will be announced at the awards presentation on Feb. 25 in Vancouver.

Recipients receive $1,500 cash, a one-year pass to Small Business BC education resources and experts, and one-on-one business mentorship opportunities.

The Sparkle Project, started by country singer and entrepreneur Kristal Barrett-Stuart,  is described as a “movement that seeks to inspire and equip young girls to lead healthy, self-confident and successful lives.”

The project holds workshops for young girls across B.C., with partial proceeds from all activities going toward bursaries.
