Abbotsford News up for eight awards

The Abbotsford News has been honoured with eight British Columbia/Yukon Community Newspaper Award nominations

The Abbotsford News has been honoured with eight British Columbia/Yukon Community Newspaper Award nominations, including the prestigious newspaper excellence award.

The News is one of three papers, along with the Surrey/North Delta Leader and the Kelowna Capital News, up for the overall excellence award in Category G (circulation over 90,000).

In individual categories, editor Andrew Holota is nominated for the best columnist award.

Graphic designer Cristine MacDonald is up for four awards, including the ad design award (over 25,000) for Apollo Fitness, and the newspaper promotion award for My BFF Contest. MacDonald is also a co-nominee with sports editor Dan Kinvig for the special section award (over 25,000) for the monthly Abbotsford Heat magazine Faceoff, and with ad rep Don Barbeau for the website and online innovation award for My Ride.

Kinvig is also nominated for the sports writing award for “Picking up the pieces,” a feature article on hockey prospect Michael Funk’s concussion battle.

Sales rep Linda Clark is up for the collaborative ad campaign award, for Dr. Peter Dueckman.
