Ryan Walter is a former pro hockey player who currently serves as president and CEO of the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Heat.

Walter, a New Westminster native, was picked second overall by the Washington Capitals in the 1978 NHL draft. He went on to play 15 seasons with the Capitals, the Montreal Canadiens and Vancouver Canucks. He won the Stanley Cup in 1986 with the Canadiens, and amassed 264 goals and 382 assists in 1,003 career NHL regular season games.

After his playing days concluded, Walter worked as a TV colour commentator, including five seasons (1993-98) with TSN.

He later served as a Canucks assistant coach under Alain Vigneault for two seasons (2008 to 2010), and coached the Canadian women's hockey team to a gold medal at the 2010 Four Nations Cup.

Walter holds a Master of Arts degree in Leadership from Trinity Western University, and is an author and motivational speaker.

The Heat hired Walter in August 2011. His son Ben plays for the Heat.
