Patricia Ross is serving her seventh term on Abbotsford city council. She serves as vice-Chair of the Fraser Valley Regional District, and as a member on the Abbotsford/Mission Water and Sewer Services Commission, Abbotsford Environmental Advisory Committee, Restorative Justice Board, and Metro Vancouver Board.
Ross owned and operated Ross Recycling recyclables pick up service for businesses and families, and has also ran a daycare.
As a graduate and fellow of the Leadership for Environment and Development International organization, Ross has been an active advocate for the environment. From 2000-06, she was a chief lobbyist in charge of public and media relations for the City of Abbotsford on its successful campaign against the polluting power plant proposal of Sumas Energy 2 (SE2). If built, this plant would have emitted tons of pollutants into a sensitive and confined airshed, affecting the health of over 300,000 people and local biodiversity. In March of 2006, SE2 admitted defeat.
Ross led the economic trade mission to China in 2006.
She has received the 2009 "Woman of the Year" award from the Business & Professional Women's Club of Abbotsford / Mission, "Newsmaker of the Year" award from the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce, "Service Recognition" award from the Abbotsford Police Department Victim Services, "Order of the Fraser Valley" from a local community group and "Environmental Watchdog" award from the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce. She also received a certificate of appreciation from the district of Mission council for "working to preserve air quality in the Fraser Valley,â and the 2007 Paul Harris Rotary Club award for her community work.
Ross also works as a motivational speaker, and has presented at the 2002 International Climate Change Conference in Buenos Aires.
