Yale bantam prep players celebrate their CSSHL championship win.

The Yale Hockey Academy are Bantam Prep Division champions for 2016.

Yale’s Ethan Leyh scored a hat trick to lead the Abbotsford-based team to a 5-4 win over the Okanagan Hockey Academy to win the Canadian Sport School Hockey League title on Sunday afternoon in Penticton.

Rhett Rhinehart factored in on all five goals for Yale, scoring once and setting up four others, while Alex Swetlikoff rounded out the scoring.

The two teams were deadlocked at one after 20 minutes before Yale pulled ahead 3-1 midway through the second. Okanagan battled back to knot the score at three, but Leyh and Rhinehart would score less than four minutes apart to restore the two-goal cushion.

Goalie Blake Wood made 26 saves in goal to pick up the victory for Yale, which finished the regular season with a division-best 20-4-1 record.

Yale knocked off the Delta Hockey Academy 4-3 in the semifinals on Saturday to advance to Sunday’s big game.
