Yale Lions battling at Bauer Bantam tournament

The Yale Lions are competing in the first-ever Bauer Bantam Elite Invite hockey tournament this weekend.

The first-ever Bauer Bantam Elite Invite hockey tournament is set to take over a pair of Abbotsford ice rinks starting on Friday.

Abbotsford’s Yale Lions Bantam Prep team is the local team participating in the event, and they open against the Edge Bantam Prep at the Summit Centre on Friday at 10:15 a.m.

The club continues its round robin schedule later that day when they square off against the St. Albert Sabres AAA team at 8:15 p.m. The Lions close off the round robin against the B.C. North Okanagan Zone Kings on Saturday at 3:15 p.m.

The tournament features four pools of four teams, with the top two in each pool after round robin play advancing to the playoff round. The bottom two teams in each pool will move on to the consolation round. Teams from all over Western Canada are competing.

The championship game occurs on Monday at 1 p.m. at MSA Arena. The bronze game is scheduled for Monday at 10 a.m. All other games take place at the Summit Centre.

Other teams at the event include: OHA Edmonton, St. George’s, Fort Saskatchewan, Delta, St. Albert, Burnaby Winter Club, Red Deer, B.C. Central Zone, L.A. Junior Kings, OHA Penticton, Calgary Bisons and the Northern Alberta Xtreme.
