Abbotsford athletes excelled at the Langley Mustangs Pacific Invitational track and field meet over the weekend.

The event, which occurred at McLeod Athletic Park in Langley, saw hundreds of athletes aged nine and up compete.

Valley Royals dominated the throwing events, with locals placing in the top three in the men’s 18 to 19 hammer throw and discus throw.

Fresh off a pair of gold medals in both discus and hammer at the B.C. high school track and field championships earlier this month, Vikramjit Gondara earned another gold in hammer throw and a silver in discus at the event.

Gondara was edged out by Royals teammate Rowan Hamilton by .17m in the discus, while he blew away the competition in the hammer throw by out throwing Hamilton by over six metres.

Abbotsford’s Jayden Driver also had a strong showing in the same division, finishing third in both hammer and discus throws.

Mission’s Harrison Trustham, who trains with the Royals, had a strong showing with three podium finishes in running events. Trustham won gold in both the 100m and 300m hurdles for boys age 14 and 15, and also finished third in the 100m dash.

Abbotsford’s Joshua Carsience had a strong all-around day, finishing first in boys 14-15 pole vault, fifth in javelin throw and sixth in 1200m.

Other athletes with golds included: Gurpartap Sandhu (long jump, girls aged nine) and Elliott Payne (javelin, 14-15 boys).

Abbotsford’s Mikiah Zietsma scored silver in 12-year-old girls long jump, bronze in javelin, fourth in 200m and fifth in 800m.
