Team B.C. comes calling for Abbotsford football stars

Eight members of the W.J. Mouat Hawks highlight an impressive crop of Abbotsford football players who have been invited to try out for B.C.'s under-18 team.

The Team B.C. mini-camp roster, released Tuesday, features 132 players from across the province. Forty players will be picked for the Football Canada Cup, a national championship tournament which runs July 9-16 in Lethbridge, Alta.

The Mouat contingent features defensive backs Deion Bain and Nathan Henczel, linebackers Jake Heathcote and Taylor Hinton, defensive lineman Sheridan Lawley, offensive lineman Dairien Silva, quarterback Mario Narte, and receiver Brandon Barratt.

A quartet of Abbotsford Collegiate Panthers also made the tryout list – linebackers Dillon McGuire and Tanner Storoshenko, and receivers Jesse Neufeld and Dallas Yassinsky.

Representing Robert Bateman Secondary are defensive linemen Kent Hicks and Reid McMorris, and defensive back Harley Loewen.

Linebacker Daniel Okello and offensive lineman Harjot Ghuman of the Rick Hansen Hurricanes round out the local contingent.
