Senior boys basketball team advances to final for first time ever

For the first time in school history, the Rick Hansen Hurricanes senior boys basketball team is playing for a provincial title.

The Hurricanes defeated Bodwell 59-50 in Friday's 3A provincial semi-final game on Friday to advance to the provincial final game.

Hansen was up 31-16 at the half to pace the path to a win. They were led by Josh Dhillon, who scored a team-high 20 points. Aman Dhillon added 13 and Gurkirat Sohi contributed with 12 points.

The Hurricanes, who were ranked number one in the 3A conference heading into the event, take on the number two ranked South Kamloops Titans in today's provincial final. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at the Langley Events Centre.

The Titans were Okanagan champions, and have defeated Brookswood, Robert Bateman, and Byrne Creek on their path to the title game.

Hansen, the Fraser Valley regional champions, beat Cahiri, St. Thomas More Collegiate and Bodwell to advance to the big game.

The best ever finish for the Hurricanes was last year, when the senior boys team earned a provincial bronze.
