The thundering sound of hundreds of students cheering at the top of their lungs and the steady drumbeat of empty water jugs filled Abbotsford Senior Secondary on Wednesday (Jan. 15) as the 63rd annual Abbotsford Snowball Classic kicked off.
With a total of 12 teams set to compete in this basketball event, including a squad from California, there is sure to be non-stop action all weekend long.
To start off the tournament, the Robert Bateman Timberwolves faced the Abbotsford Panthers home team.

Both teams relied heavily on their perimeter shooters, with things being quite spirited on the court for the entire four quarters.
The Panthers had a sizable lead at halftime, with students coming out to entertain the home crowd with a musical performance followed by a very physical game of a balloon-popping race, which had the entire gym engulfed in laughter.
Once the second half got underway, the Panthers continued their scoring onslaught and chipped away at the Timberwolves' defence, finishing the match with a final score of 97-60.
Both teams still have plenty of games ahead of them as the Abbotsford Snowball Classic continues throughout the weekend, with the championship matches scheduled for Saturday evening.
