Admirals surge ahead in third period, Heat losing skid hits four games

Michael Liambas scored the go-ahead goal in the third period on Sunday afternoon as the Milwaukee Admirals sent the Abbotsford Heat to their fourth consecutive defeat.

The Heat got off to a solid start in this one – they out-shot the host Admirals 11-5 in the opening frame, and killed off an extended five-on-three power play. Tyler Ruegsegger staked Abby to a 1-0 lead at 16:47 of the first, notching his sixth goal of the season.

But Kevin Henderson drew Milwaukee even early in the second, and Liambas potted the game-winner at 8:02 of the third. Taylor Beck rounded out the scoring into an empty net with 56 seconds left in regulation.

Barry Brust took the loss in goal, turning aside 17 of 19 shots, while Ads goalie Magnus Hellberg's 23-save effort was enough to beat the Heat for the second time in less than a week.

Leland Irving, assigned to the Heat by the Calgary Flames on Saturday, had been slated to start vs. Milwaukee, but illness relegated him to backup duty.

The Abbotsford club (26-20-7) wraps up its five-game road trip on Wednesday at the Chicago Wolves, before returning home for a Friday-Saturday set vs. the Charlotte Checkers (7 p.m. both nights, Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre).
